Ownership and interests
SXM Today is independently owned. Our owner also runs other businesses on the island, and some of those relationships overlap with businesses that may advertise here.
No advertiser — including one with an existing relationship to our owner — gets to see a story before it publishes, influence how it’s written, or have it pulled. See our editorial standards and how we’re funded.
How we work
Every story carries a label saying how it was produced, and names and links the source it came from. Stories carry the newsroom’s name rather than a personal byline.
We use software to watch official sources — the weather service, the utility, the government, the airport — and the island’s other newsrooms, so we hear about things quickly. Stories are drafted with AI tools from those sources. Each draft is checked against its source and our rules before it can publish; anything the checks are unsure of waits for an editor, and an editor is responsible for everything we publish.
When another outlet broke a story, we say so: an In brief retells their report in our own words, names them, and links to the original.
