184 Dutch soldiers train in Curaçao and Aruba during engineer exercise
Soualiga Newsday reported that Dutch Army engineers are carrying out Defence and community projects during a three-week exercise.
Soualiga Newsday reported on 24 September that 184 soldiers from the Royal Netherlands Army are training in Curaçao and Aruba during the annual Caribbean Engineer exercise. The soldiers are from 103 Construction Company, part of 101 Engineer Battalion, and are carrying out technical work at Ministry of Defence sites and community locations.
In Curaçao, the work includes expanding a vehicle shelter at Naval Base Parera, levelling parking areas at Brakkeput Watersports Association, improving roads at the Wacawa training grounds and installing solar panels at Forward Operating Base Maduro. Soldiers are also replacing sanitary fixtures and light fittings and upgrading electrical systems at the Betesda care and treatment centre for older people.
In Aruba, the engineers are operating from the Savaneta Marine Barracks and working at its training village. Soualiga Newsday reported that soldiers will use shovels, trucks, excavators, cranes, bulldozers and vibratory rollers during the exercise.
