Minister Plenipotentiary Gracita R. Arrindell attended the unveiling on Friday 9 October of a memorial stone for Curaçao-born author Frank Martinus Arion at De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. The ceremony was held ahead of Curaçao’s 10 October national holiday, Dia di Pais Kòrsou.

Curaçao Deputy Minister Plenipotentiary Errol Bishop unveiled the stone. It was designed by Curaçao-born sculptor Nelson Carrilho, who died in July 2026 before the monument was unveiled. The memorial includes a poem by Arion in Papiamentu and a bronze footprint.

Arion, who was born in 1936 and died in 2015, wrote the 1973 novel Dubbelspel. The novel was included in the canon of Dutch-language literature in 2025, according to the report.

De Nieuwe Kerk also commemorates writers including Multatuli, Annie M.G. Schmidt, Hella Haasse and Anton de Kom.
