Bervoets to join Barbados climate and health conference

Sir Tadzio Bervoets will represent Sint Maarten at AUC's Caribbean climate and health conference in Barbados on 27 and 28 October.

A wide calm lagoon with a few boats and small islands stretches toward green hills under a cloudy sky.

Sir Tadzio Bervoets will represent Sint Maarten at the Climate and One Health Conference 2026 in Barbados on Tuesday 20 October 27 and Wednesday 28 October. The American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) will host the conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre with Ross University School of Medicine and Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.

The conference will examine climate change, public health, environmental protection and disaster preparedness. Bervoets will take part in discussions on young people, coral reef ecosystems, environmental protection and Caribbean well-being.

AUC said the programme will cover heat-related health risks, non-communicable diseases including diabetes and heart disease, and disease outbreaks after disasters. It will also address disaster preparedness, climate and mental health, health commissions, and financing for climate-resilient health systems.

A pre-conference research workshop is scheduled for Monday 26 October. AUC said the conference will offer in-person and virtual participation, with continuing medical education credits available. Registration closes on Friday 23 October.
