Contour Airlines inaugurated a twice-weekly nonstop service between Sint Maarten and St Thomas at Princess Juliana International Airport on Monday 5 October. Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication Grisha Heyliger-Marten said Contour is the only airline providing scheduled nonstop service between the two islands.
Flights operate on Mondays and Fridays using 30-seat regional aircraft, according to Heyliger-Marten. She said the direct journey takes about 55 minutes to one hour and gives residents another regional travel option.
Heyliger-Marten said the route could also link St Thomas passengers to Princess Juliana International Airport’s wider network. The airport has scheduled nonstop passenger connections to more than 40 destinations in the Caribbean, North America and Europe, she said.
Contour already serves San Juan, according to the minister. Heyliger-Marten said Government, the airport, tourism partners and the airline must promote and support the St Thomas service for it to become sustainable and expand.
