Curaçao Culture Week opens with honours for Calister and Florán

Curaçao’s 22nd Culture Week, known as “Siman di Kultura”, began on Sunday 27 September under the theme “From Curaçao to the World”. At the opening ceremony, the Curaçao government named Izaline Calister and Urny Florán as this year’s culture bearers and presented each with a plaque for their contributions to Curaçao culture.

Calister attended the ceremony. Florán was unable to attend and was represented by his sister. The opening day started with a holy mass at the Basilica of Santa Ana, followed by a short march from Breedestraat in Otrobanda to Molenplein.

The programme then continued with cultural and musical performances. Visitors can move between Molenplein, St. Martinus, St. Martinusstraat and Brionplein for activities including music, art, poetry, dance, gastronomy, local products, workshops and family activities.
