Dominica police issue festival safety advice ahead of World Creole Music Festival
Dominica police urged festivalgoers, homeowners, motorists and businesses to take safety precautions ahead of the 2026 World Creole Music Festival.

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force issued safety advice on Friday 23 October ahead of the 2026 World Creole Music Festival. Acting Superintendent of Police Chaucer James, who heads the Criminal Investigative Unit, said residents, visitors and business operators should take precautions during the festival period.
James advised homeowners to lock doors, windows and gates before leaving home, keep valuables out of sight and avoid posting online information that shows a property is unoccupied. He told festivalgoers to protect their phones, wallets and handbags, carry only necessary cash and use well-lit ATMs without accepting unsolicited help.
The police force also urged motorists to park in designated, well-lit areas, lock vehicles and remove valuables from view. James said people planning to drink alcohol should arrange transport in advance and designate a sober driver.
Festival patrons were asked to follow police and security instructions, comply with screening procedures and avoid confrontations. Licensed firearm holders were told not to approach the festival entrance with weapons because firearms will not be permitted inside the venue.
Parents and guardians were encouraged to supervise children, agree meeting points and tell them to seek help from police officers or identifiable event officials if separated. James said theft, threats, violence and suspicious activity should be reported promptly to police or security officials.
