Government targets early 2027 for digital public services rollout
Government officials said on Wednesday 30 September that digital ID, an online portal and linked services are targeted for early 2027.

Government is targeting the first quarter of 2027 to launch digital public services, officials said during a Facebook Live presentation on Wednesday 30 September. The planned system includes a government-issued digital identity, a redesigned online portal and links between participating government systems.
Femi Badejo, head of Government’s Department of ICT and the Digital Leadership Team, and project manager Chard Charles said development and testing are under way. They said more than 300,000 government records have been digitised, and six services are planned for the initial rollout.
According to the project team, the first services will include Civil Registry certificate requests, driver’s licence and national ID issuance and renewals, sole proprietorship registration, and address-related requests. Residents would be able to enrol for a digital ID online or with help at Public Service Center locations.
The officials said people will still be able to use physical Government service locations, while electronic ID enrolment is expected to be available from age 12. They also said the system is being designed to let authorised departments exchange information needed for a service without residents repeatedly submitting it.
The 30 September presentation was the first in a planned monthly Facebook Live series. The project team said it plans demonstrations of the digital ID, portal and connected services before launch.
