Reading Festival: school programme Friday, free public day at USM Saturday
The Third Reading Festival: Sint Maarten Edition holds a school programme on Friday 25 September and a free public day at USM on Saturday 26 September.
The Third Reading Festival: Sint Maarten Edition runs on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September, its organisers said. Saturday is a public day at the University of St. Martin (USM) from 10am to 3pm AST, and admission is free.
Stichting Biblionef Netherlands is holding the festival with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, the Library of Sint Maarten, Help Our Children Foundation and USM. The organisers said primary school children, high school students, parents and teachers are invited on Saturday. Parents or guardians are asked to accompany children aged 12 and under.

Friday is a school programme for Form 1 and Form 2 students from participating secondary schools. Form 1 students will attend activities at USM, with transport provided, and Form 2 students will take part at their own schools. The programme includes author visits, reading activities, workshops and educational games.
Saturday’s programme includes author readings, storytelling, workshops, educational games and AI activities, according to the organisers. The day also includes a Steel Pan Workshop run by Dow’s Musical Foundation and what the organisers call a VR surprise.
More than 2,500 new books, educational materials and language games are to be distributed to schools and children across Sint Maarten, the organisers said. Participants can also win prizes during the activities. Books and materials used at the festival will afterwards be available through the Library of Sint Maarten.
The festival is supported by the Dutch Foundation for Literature, with local sponsorship through Help Our Children Foundation.
