The Student Support Services Division (SSSD), part of St. Maarten’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, held its 2026 School Safety & Emergency Teams Awards and Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday 22 October. According to the division, certificates and awards were presented to recognise participating schools’ involvement in school safety initiatives.

The Government of St. Maarten says the SSSD coordinates the school safety programme and supports crisis management, school safety implementation and psychosocial assistance. Government documentation says publicly funded schools have established School Safety and Emergency Teams and developed plans for before, during and after emergencies.

According to the government, the teams prepare for emergencies, coordinate responses and support recovery at their schools.
