Mega D Youth Foundation of Sint Eustatius was among three recipients of the 2026 Appeltjes van Oranje awards, according to the Oranje Fonds. Each recipient received €25,000 and a bronze statuette designed by Princess Beatrix.

Minister Plenipotentiary Gracita R. Arrindell attended the ceremony at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, where Queen Máxima presented the awards. King Willem-Alexander and Princess Beatrix also attended, the Minister Plenipotentiary's office said.

The 2026 theme was Samen armoede doorbreken, translated as Breaking the Cycle of Poverty Together. The Oranje Fonds said the awards recognised initiatives addressing poverty, financial hardship and social exclusion through community-based work.

Mega D Youth Foundation works with children and young people through education, personal development and community activities, according to the Minister Plenipotentiary's office. Its activities include homework assistance, educational support, sports, music and creative programmes.

The other recipients were Stichting Doors Wide Open in Hof van Twente and Stek – Buurt & Lukas in The Hague. Stek received the Grote Appel award.

Arrindell said volunteers and community organisations should be supported, and encouraged Sint Maarten volunteer groups and social organisations to continue their work.
