Sint Maarten MPs visit Curaçao prevention centre and Joint Court
Sint Maarten’s parliamentary delegation visited Fundashon Prevenshon and the Joint Court in Curaçao on 14 October.

According to the Parliament of Sint Maarten, President of Parliament Sarah A. Wescot-Williams and MPs Sjamira D.M. Roseburg, Lyndon C.J. Lewis and Raeyhon A. Peterson visited Fundashon Prevenshon, the Caribbean Prevention Centre, in Curaçao on Wednesday 14 October. The visit came before the Tripartite Meeting of the parliaments of Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten scheduled for Thursday 15 October.
Parliament said foundation director Louise Elstak briefed the delegation on Curaçao’s prevention-focused healthcare model. This included screening programmes for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer, and a lifestyle screening programme aimed at preventing non-communicable diseases. The briefing also covered government involvement, patient follow-up, continuity of care, the foundation’s prevention approach, financing, quality controls, data use, and protocols involving healthcare providers, hospitals and the Civil Registry.
Parliament said the members expressed interest in examining whether parts of Curaçao’s model could be adapted for Sint Maarten.
Later that day, Wescot-Williams, Roseburg, Lewis, Omar E.C. Ottley and Dimar C. Labega visited the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. Tahirah de Lanoy, LL.M., branch manager of the Curaçao Office of the Joint Court, gave a presentation on the court’s work, including appellate proceedings across the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, Parliament said.
