Six candidates seek Saint-Martin Senate seat

Six candidates are seeking Saint-Martin’s single Senate seat in an indirect election on Sunday 27 September, Faxinfo reports. The territory’s 25 grand electors, including local elected officials, the deputy and the senator, will vote in a two-round majority ballot; residents do not vote directly.

Faxinfo reports that 13 votes are needed to win in the first round. The winner will take office on 1 October for a six-year term. Both rounds are to be held on the same day if a second round is needed.

The candidates are incumbent Annick Pétrus; Valérie Damaseau, backed by RSMa; Bernadette Venthou-Dumaine; Raphaël Sanchez; former deputy and Collectivité president Daniel Gibbs; and Paris Bar lawyer Tristan Choppin Haudry de Janvry. Faxinfo says the first five are territorial councillors, while Choppin Haudry de Janvry is not on the Territorial Council.

Faxinfo reports that 178 of the Senate’s 348 seats are being renewed in 2026. The Senate is one of the two chambers of the French Parliament.
