Three Sint Maarten aerial dancers selected for world championships

Three competitors from a Sint Maarten aerial dance school, Joséphine, Lou and Alyona, have been selected for France’s team at the discipline’s world championships. The school won five gold medals and one silver at France’s online championships.

The school said its travel budget is €6,450. SXM Festival is supporting accommodation, while the school is seeking funding for transport at the destination, costumes and competition entry fees.

Joséphine will compete in the Junior A Amateur hammock category. Lou will enter Junior B Elite hoop, while Alyona will compete in Master 40+ Amateur in both hammock and hoop. Each competitor will have three minutes and 20 seconds before the jury.

Alyona has practised pole dance for 13 years and aerial dance for nine years. She said the selection would let her compare her students’ level with international competitors.
