Two pupils receive US$3,000 prize package and school-fee support

Jordan Cannigeter of Prins Willem Alexander Primary School and Dareon Richardson of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School received a combined prize package valued at about US$3,000 after preparing for a spoken-word competition that was postponed, the Men’s Mental Health Awareness Foundation said. The package includes payment of both pupils’ school fees for the 2027/2028 academic year.

The Foundation said it recognised Cannigeter on Monday 19 October and Richardson on Thursday 22 October. The 5th Annual Interscholastic Spoken Word Competition had been scheduled for 10 October 2026 but was postponed because of insufficient participation.

Foundation President Ahmad “Ahmiie” Gumbs visited Prins Willem Alexander Primary School with Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Melissa Gumbs and a representative of Argos Antilles. Cannigeter performed his piece, “I Do Too,” the Foundation said.

At Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School, Richardson performed “I Do Too” and “Mr. Wise Guy vs. Mr. Crash Out,” according to the Foundation.

The Foundation said Argos Antilles and Gemstar Realty sponsored the prizes and school-fee support. Both pupils will also appear with previous competition winners in the Foundation’s planned short film, “I Do Too,” which Great Bay Media is to film.

The Foundation said the competition is expected to return on 29 May 2027 and encouraged schools to take part.
