Two workers injured in Cole Bay boat yard explosion

Two workers were injured in an explosion near a boat yard on Wellsburg Street in Cole Bay on Wednesday 30 September, according to the Korps Politie Sint Maarten (KPSM). The police dispatch centre received the report at about 4:20pm AST.

A preliminary police investigation found that work was being done on a boat near its fuel tank when the explosion occurred. KPSM said the workers’ injuries were minor and not considered life-threatening, and both received medical treatment.

Firefighters responded and contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other boats or buildings nearby, KPSM said.

KPSM said the circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
