The University of St. Martin said it began a two-day orientation for new Caribbean Foundation Year students on Thursday 1 October, ahead of the start of classes on Monday 5 October. The first day introduced students to the university, academic expectations and student life.

USM said the second day was scheduled for Friday 2 October and would focus on Moodle, its online learning platform. Registrar Glenda Brazier was to guide students through accessing courses, assignments, grades and other academic information.

The first-day programme included a welcome from Robert Judd and an overview of the CFY programme and academic year by Juliana Shipley-Hodge. CFY faculty members also introduced their courses, USM said.

USM alumni Ty Farquharson and Sherenn Leblanc spoke with students about the transition from secondary school to university. The university said they are expected to return later in the semester for mentoring sessions.

Students also received information on identification cards, benefits, activities and support services. Raeann Ford led a campus tour, while Stacey Thomas introduced library services and Dr. Carole Joseph led a counselling session, according to USM.
