USM Library adds inscribed copy of The Conch Paradox
USM Library added Rendell de Kort’s inscribed book ahead of his public discussion at 7pm on Wednesday 30 September.

The University of St. Martin Library has added an inscribed copy of The Conch Paradox: Rethinking Resilience, Second Edition, after author Rendell de Kort presented it to USM Librarian Stacey Thomas on Monday 28 September. The library said the book can be borrowed by students, faculty and staff.
De Kort, an Aruban economist, will hold a public talk and conversation at the University of St. Martin’s Soualiga Road campus at 7pm on Wednesday 30 September. USM Research Coordinator Raymond Jessurun will introduce him, and students from three USM courses, members of the United Women Book Club and other community members are expected to take part.
The book uses the queen conch shell as a metaphor for resilience, examining when systems intended to provide stability can restrict adaptation and change. De Kort’s work draws on doctoral research on small-island economies, the natural history of the queen conch and a year his family spent in Rotterdam during a medical crisis.
