Vernice Bellony, a Dominican credit union figure, received the OECS Credit Union Pioneer & Legacy Award on Tuesday 20 October. According to the Dominica Co-operative Societies League Limited, the award recognises her decades of involvement in the credit union sector.

Bellony began her association with the credit union movement in 1956, the League said. She also served as parliamentary representative for the Vieille Case Constituency during a United Workers Party administration.

The League said Bellony’s work supported the development of Dominica’s credit union sector and cooperative movement.
