Woman sentenced after partner suffers boiling-oil burns
Faxinfo reports that L. received a 24-month sentence after J. suffered second-degree burns from boiling oil on 24 June.
Faxinfo reported that a court sentenced L. to 24 months in prison after she admitted throwing boiling oil at her partner, J. Twelve months were suspended with two years’ probation. The court also ordered psychological treatment, barred L. from contacting J. and ordered her to compensate him.
According to Faxinfo, J. was admitted to Louis Constant Fleming Hospital at about 4am on 24 June after suffering second-degree burns to his face, neck, chest and arms. The burns covered 14% of his body and resulted in 30 days of ITT, a French measure of temporary incapacity for work.

Faxinfo reported that J. said he had been asleep when he was awakened by pain. L., who had been in a relationship with him for seven years, told the court she threw the oil after learning he had been unfaithful.
L. told the court she had reached a breaking point after years of domestic violence and said J. had struck her on the night of the incident. Faxinfo reported that J., who had previously been convicted of violence against a former partner, denied those allegations.
A psychological assessment conducted while L. was in police custody described years of physical and psychological harm, according to Faxinfo. Her defence presented messages said to contain threats from J., while J.’s lawyer challenged their authenticity. Faxinfo reported that the messages’ validity was debated at the hearing but was not established.
The court took account of the violence described by L. while finding the conduct extremely violent, Faxinfo reported. J.’s lawyer said he will have lifelong physical effects, including scarring and reduced visual acuity.
