Anguilla is hosting the CARICOM Statistics Series of Meetings from 22 to 30 October, including the 51st meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS). The SCCS opening ceremony was held on Tuesday 27 October at Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club.

The meetings bring together regional statisticians and partners to discuss how statistics can support decision-making and resilience across the Caribbean. Anguilla is hosting the SCCS meeting for the first time in 50 years.

Lori-Rae Alleyne-Franklin, Chief Statistician of the Anguilla Statistics Department, said common methods and statistical standards can give the region a more reliable picture of conditions. CARICOM Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Armstrong Alexis said regional leaders need reliable and comparable statistical evidence to make policy decisions.

Kyle Hodge, Minister of Economic Development, said data collection is needed to understand the business environment. He said better-connected systems could help make use of limited resources, including in agriculture and fisheries.
