The St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry, COCI, said on Tuesday 27 October that its employees are receiving a cost-of-living adjustment retroactive from January through September 2026. COCI said Treasurer Louis Bute proposed the measure.

The Chamber said the measure applies to its own employees and does not create a mandatory cost-of-living adjustment for employers across Sint Maarten.

COCI said Bute made the proposal under his financial oversight responsibilities as Treasurer of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, as provided for in Article 16 of the National Ordinance governing the institution.

The Chamber said Bute is encouraging public- and private-sector employers to consider similar measures within their financial capacity.
