Dominica’s geothermal initiative received the Best Caribbean Energy Project and Best Financing Programme awards at the 2026 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum, held in Panama City from 14 to 16 October. Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy Minister Dr. Vince Henderson also received the Caribbean Energy Leadership MVP Industry Award.

The awards concern Dominica’s 10-megawatt geothermal facility in Laudat, in the Roseau Valley. The plant began commercial operations in July 2026 after testing and is supplying electricity to the national grid.

Henderson said the project involved project teams and development partners. He said attention should turn to results for the public, including the prospect of lower electricity costs, improved conditions for businesses and economic growth.
