Doran seeks ministers’ review of annual St. Martin Culture Week
MP Egbert J. Doran has asked ECYS and TEATT to assess an annual St. Martin Culture Week, including costs, funding and implementation.

Member of Parliament Egbert J. Doran has submitted a proposal to Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Melissa Gumbs and Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication Minister Grisha Heyliger-Marten to explore an annual St. Martin Culture Week.
Doran requested a joint meeting with the two ministries and their departments to discuss the proposal’s feasibility, potential costs, funding opportunities and possible implementation. He said the proposal followed his remarks during the 2027 Budget debate on preserving St. Martin’s traditions, history and cultural identity.
Doran said the event could bring together schools, senior citizens, cultural organisations, local businesses and communities. Possible activities include traditional storytelling, fishing and agriculture demonstrations, cooking competitions, guavaberry making, traditional games, folk music, dance and the sharing of local customs and expressions.
He said the proposal would also document and share knowledge held by senior citizens. Doran said Culture Week could complement existing cultural programmes and create opportunities for fishermen, farmers, artisans, entertainers, storytellers, local cooks and small businesses.
