The Kingdom Council of Ministers approved a permanent assignment for the Dutch Ministry of Defence to monitor military and security developments in the Caribbean region on Friday 30 October. According to the Ministry of Defence, the assignment follows a temporary mandate that has been in place since September 2025.

Defence will assess developments involving state and non-state actors where their activities could affect the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. Minister of Defence Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius informed the Dutch Parliament of the decision in a letter dated 30 October.

The ministry said the monitoring will be incorporated into existing military readiness responsibilities. It will complement work by the Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Service, known as MIVD, and the General Intelligence and Security Service, or AIVD.
