On Friday 16 October, KPSM urged parents and guardians to stay involved in their children’s lives, according to the Government of Sint Maarten. Police asked them to know their children’s whereabouts, understand their activities and keep open communication about the consequences of criminal behaviour.

KPSM said parental guidance, supervision and early intervention can help young people avoid involvement in criminal activity. It also encouraged parents and guardians of children involved in criminal activity to seek professional advice and assistance. KPSM said its investigation remains ongoing.
