MPs seek answers on GEBE disconnection policy
MPs Sjamira Roseburg and Darryl York asked Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina to clarify GEBE's disconnection policy and authority.

MPs Sjamira Roseburg and Darryl York asked Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina to clarify the status of NV GEBE's disconnection policy during the continuation of Parliament's 2027 national budget debate. They also asked what legal authority the utility uses to disconnect customers and what safeguards apply to vulnerable households.
Roseburg said elderly residents, people who need electricity for medical reasons and families with young children were among customers facing disconnections. She said she had previously been told that a policy was nearing completion and under review by GEBE's Supervisory Board, but had not received a clear update.
Roseburg said she had prepared a draft policy and was willing to give it to GEBE if the company's own policy remained unfinished. York said MPs had raised questions about the matter for more than a year and asked whether a completed policy was in effect.
Mercelina said he needed more time to research follow-up questions and offered to return to Parliament or provide written answers. Roseburg asked for the disconnection information to be made public during the proceedings. Mercelina then agreed to submit additional information by 3pm AST.
