York questions Cole Bay Hill road markings and camera absence

MP Darryl York raised concerns about uncorrected road markings and missing cameras on Cole Bay Hill during Parliament’s 2027 budget debate.

Houses of Cole Bay and Simpson Bay spread below Cole Hill, with the lagoon and the sea beyond.

MP Darryl York asked the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) when incorrect road markings on Cole Bay Hill would be corrected during Parliament’s 2027 national budget debate. York said the markings had affected the application of traffic rules after a serious accident on the hill and remained in place months later.

York also questioned the Acting Minister of Justice about the absence of surveillance cameras at the bend. He said cameras could have provided additional evidence after the accident and said he had not identified funding for their installation in the proposed 2027 budget.

York also questioned road construction standards, saying the condition of completed roads can reflect the specifications and materials commissioned by government, rather than contractors alone.
