Nurses train KPSM officers on Alzheimer’s response

KPSM says officers received Alzheimer’s response training from WYCCF nurses, while Dutch military personnel will support police operations.

KPSM officers completed specialised training on responding to people living with Alzheimer’s disease, the police said. White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation nurses provided guidance on approaching people with the disease, responding to them and making referrals for assistance.

In a separate development, Defence Caribbean, the Dutch military, will support KPSM in the coming period after a request from St. Maarten authorities, according to KPSM. The police said Defence will assist in maintaining safety and public order.

Chief of Police Carl John said the training would better prepare officers to help people living with Alzheimer’s disease and their families. Nurses Micheline Hunte, Minerva Maccow and Vaitaire Overman were among those who provided the training.

KPSM asked the public to cooperate with officers during operations.
