Princess Juliana International Airport said its third annual Princess Walk raised US$10,000 for breast cancer awareness on Sunday 18 October. According to PJIA, the money came from sales of official event T-shirts and was more than double the amount collected at last year's walk.

PJIA said the funds will support the Elektralyets Foundation and Positive Foundation, including their work on breast cancer awareness, education, early detection and access to screening opportunities for women in St. Maarten.

Participants began gathering at the terminal from 4am AST before being taken airside for the runway walk, PJIA said. The airport said its Rescue and Firefighting Services and Electrical teams used pink lighting on fire trucks and runway lights for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

PJIA Chief Executive Officer Michael Cleaver joined the walk and said the event was intended to promote awareness, prevention and access to early detection. The airport also named Menzies Aviation, Swiss Canonica, Subway and Avis Budget as sponsors.
