Port Everglades considers US$1.7 billion cruise infrastructure programme
Port Everglades is considering a US$1.7 billion, 20-year programme to upgrade terminals, berths, roads and parking in Florida.

Port Everglades in Florida is considering a US$1.7 billion programme over the next two decades to expand and upgrade its cruise facilities. On Friday 30 October, the port’s chief executive officer and director, Joseph Morris, outlined the proposal during a Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association Leadership Series interview.
Morris said proposed work includes renovating existing cruise terminals, rebuilding an older facility, improving docking and berthing infrastructure, and installing upgraded passenger boarding bridges. The programme also includes plans to expand parking and improve roads for passenger and vessel movements.
Morris said cruise lines’ expansion of private-island destinations and shorter itineraries are increasing the need for efficient port operations as ships make turnaround calls more often. He also identified customer service and relationships with cruise lines as part of the port’s strategy.
