Minister Plenipotentiary Gracita R. Arrindell offered condolences on Sunday 18 October following the death of Cornelius James, known as Cor James. The Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten in The Hague said James was its first director after Sint Maarten gained autonomous status within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 10 October 2010.

According to the Cabinet, James worked alongside Sint Maarten’s first Minister Plenipotentiary, Mathias S. Voges, as the office established its representation in the Netherlands. The Cabinet said his work included coordinating governmental and institutional engagements involving Kingdom relations, European affairs, education, student affairs, Dutch municipalities and other organisations.

Arrindell said James was among public servants who helped establish the country’s institutions after the constitutional transition in 2010. The minister and Cabinet staff extended sympathies to his family, friends and former colleagues.
