Doran flags six-month gap in Social Economic Council board

MP Egbert J. Doran said on Thursday 22 October that the non-functioning SER Board could delay legislation requiring council advice.

MP Egbert J. Doran said during Parliament’s notification round on Thursday 22 October that the Board of the Social Economic Council (SER) had been non-functional for about six to seven months. He called on coalition Members of Parliament and the Chair of Parliament to seek a government update on its status and the steps being taken to restore it.

Doran said the board enables the SER to advise on legislation and matters affecting Sint Maarten’s social and economic development. He said its absence was delaying the handling of legislation requiring the council’s advice. Doran said concerns about the board had been raised in November 2024 and called for greater urgency and accountability from the government.
