Dutch State Secretary for Interior and Kingdom Relations Eric van der Burg visited the Savaneta Marine Barracks in Aruba on Monday 12 October with Aruban Prime Minister Mike Eman. They received a briefing on the Aruban Military, ARUMIL, and met young people in the Social Development Program, known as SVT Sociale Vormingstraject.

The programme is for young people aged 17 to 25 who are not attending school or have not found a clear direction, according to its description. Its first phase includes military-discipline training at the Savaneta Marine Barracks under ARUMIL officers.

The programme was introduced in Aruba in 2010 in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence. Van der Burg’s working visit to the ABC Islands also includes Curaçao and Bonaire.
