From 2027, the Department of Social Services will assess applications and choose beneficiaries for GEBE’s senior relief programme.

NV GEBE said its Senior Citizens Relief Program will be administered by the Department of Social Services from 2027 under an agreement with the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (VSA). GEBE will no longer receive applications, determine eligibility or select beneficiaries, according to the utility.

GEBE said it will continue providing financial support, while the Department of Social Services will assess applications, determine which seniors qualify and select beneficiaries. Temporary Manager Iris Arrindell said the arrangement leaves individual assessments with the government department responsible for social assistance.

GEBE said VSA will publish the 2027 eligibility criteria, application process, deadlines and required documents through official government channels. The utility described the change as a restructuring of the programme rather than its end.
