Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Melissa Gumbs said the ministry is completing a tender process for a structural assessment of Sint Maarten’s public schools. According to Gumbs, the assessment is intended to establish the condition of the buildings, set out the cost of repairs and inform future budgets for structural maintenance.

Gumbs said the assessment would cover more than immediate repairs by helping Government plan recurring maintenance. She gave the update while discussing public-school conditions and maintenance during deliberations on the 2027 Country Budget.

Gumbs said some companies had difficulty finding tender documents, although many later obtained the information. She encouraged qualified companies to watch for later tenders.

She said the ministry does not plan to split school maintenance and cleaning work into many small contracts. Gumbs said companies that can sustain the work will be able to bid when those tenders are issued.
