Government says Rolandus Canal repairs are planned in Suckergarden
The Ministry of VROMI says a US$750,000-plus project will repair a canal section, road, bridges and railings in Suckergarden.

The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) said it and Cupecoy Development N.V. will undertake repairs to the Rolandus Canal in Suckergarden. The ministry said the work was scheduled to begin on Monday 12 October and put the project value at just over US$750,000, or Cg 1.365 million.
According to VROMI, repairs will include fixing a collapsed stretch of King of the Sea Road, reinforcing the area around seven bridges crossing the canal, and installing and repairing railings. The ministry said the canal runs from Defiance to Great Bay along the eastern side of Sint Maarten, and that erosion has affected land surrounding it.
VROMI described the project as the third public-private partnership initiated by Minister Patrice Gumbs. It said Cupecoy Development N.V. is supporting the work and that a local contractor will carry it out.
The ministry said it would publish work schedules and alternate routes in the coming days and would inform residents of changes.
