Education Minister Melissa Gumbs told Parliament on Tuesday 3 November that the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport estimates a Cg 11.8 million funding gap in 2027. The ministry has a proposed Cg 7.1 million budget increase, or 5.64%, but Gumbs said much of its funding is already committed to personnel, education subsidies, salary indexation, cost-of-living adjustments and operations.

Gumbs said about Cg 6.1 million of the estimated gap relates to education, and that figure could rise as further needs are identified and costed. The public education budget is projected to increase by about Cg 2.2 million, largely for the Educational Care Center and its staffing. The centre is intended to assist students with significant behavioural challenges, according to Gumbs.

Gumbs also said a tender for a structural condition assessment and repair plan for all seven public schools remains open until 6 November 2026. The ministry is examining a proposed gasoline levy fund for local sports development, while a legal adviser reviews Aruba's lottery legislation for a possible comparable arrangement. Gumbs said neither measure is an approved funding arrangement.
