Lacroes, Ottley press VROMI on sewage, garbage and abandoned vehicles
MPs Lacroes and Omar Ottley asked VROMI Minister Patrice Gumbs for action on sewage, waste collection and vehicle wrecks on 20 October.

MPs Lacroes and Omar Ottley raised sewage, garbage collection and abandoned-vehicle concerns during Parliament's meeting with VROMI Minister Patrice Gumbs on Tuesday 20 October. Lacroes said wastewater has flowed across part of St. Peters Road for about 15 years. He asked the ministry to explain the cause, needed corrective work and its timeline, and requested an update on a Parliament motion on removing vehicle wrecks.
Lacroes also said residents have complained that wastewater from neighbouring properties enters their homes or land. He called for clearer government procedures and enforcement, and asked about a proposed reporting application or QR-code system for sewage complaints.
Ottley cited garbage around Kim Sha Beach in Simpson Bay and referred to complaints from Cay Bay, Cole Bay and St. Peters. He said classifications in collection agreements may result in contractors declining to remove some waste, and asked who is responsible when garbage remains in public areas.
Ottley also asked whether a wastewater task force involving VSA, VROMI and the Ministry of Justice is still operating. He said the group had discussed arrangements for fines related to wastewater and sewage violations. Ottley urged Gumbs to seek assistance if needed and said he was willing to help draft policy or legislative changes.
