Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina said he met with the Association of Netherlands Municipalities, VNG, to discuss technical assistance, capacity development and possible European Union funding for Sint Maarten. He said the talks covered GEBE governance support, renewable energy, flood prevention and waste management.

Mercelina said VNG International and the Council of Ministers of Sint Maarten shared an intention to hold further engagement. He said this could allow ministers to examine technical assistance, institutional partnerships and possible development financing for their portfolios. Further coordination will determine the arrangements, according to Mercelina.

Mercelina was accompanied by Minister Plenipotentiary Gracita R. Arrindell, Secretary-General Dr. Abel Knottnerus and Chief of Staff Stuart Johnson. Sint Maarten signed its Certificate of Extraordinary Membership with VNG in December 2025 alongside VNG Chair and Mayor of Utrecht Sharon Dijksma, Mercelina said.
