Mercelina visits Philips Healthcare during Netherlands mission
Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina visited Philips Healthcare in Best on 22 October to discuss medical technology and remote clinical support.

Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina and a Sint Maarten delegation visited Philips Healthcare in Best, the Netherlands, on Thursday 22 October during the government’s working mission. The visit examined medical imaging, artificial intelligence-assisted technology, connected patient monitoring and remote clinical support, according to Mercelina.
Philips presentations included the prospect of certain MRI examinations being completed in about five minutes, depending on the examination and technology used. Mercelina said shorter examination times and AI-supported radiology diagnostics could support patient care.
Mercelina said Sint Maarten’s new hospital should include the technology and expertise needed for modern care. He said remote consultations and clinical collaboration could help connect local medical teams with specialist doctors and support.
He said any technology must be assessed with healthcare institutions and professionals, including its training, maintenance, digital infrastructure, patient privacy and long-term affordability. The visit followed an earlier meeting between Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor Claret Connor and Philips representatives during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Minister Plenipotentiary Gracita Arrindell and Chief of Staff Stuart Johnson accompanied Mercelina.
