PJIA appoints Dr. Bekele as airport medical doctor

Princess Juliana International Airport Operating Company N.V. (PJIA) said Dr. Bekele has been appointed as its airport Medical Doctor, succeeding Dr. Swanston. The appointment was announced in a release distributed by the St. Maarten Hospitality & Trade Association.

PJIA said Dr. Bekele will work with its Emergency Medical Technician team and operational departments during medical emergencies. Her duties include supporting triage and medical coordination during mass-casualty incidents or other major emergencies, according to PJIA.

PJIA said Dr. Bekele will be its designated medical contact for medical evacuation operations. Where required, she will provide medical authorisation for the airport to reopen on behalf of the Operations Director after medevac situations involving patients or passengers arriving from Saba or St. Eustatius and departing through Princess Juliana International Airport.

The airport operator said she will also advise management on global health developments, including infectious diseases and other public-health concerns that could affect airport operations.
