Member of Parliament Sjamira Roseburg said she visited Curaçao’s Tourist Police while attending the Caribbean Excellence Summit, after a tourist police pilot for Sint Maarten was discussed in Parliament.

Roseburg said she met with one of the unit’s officers to learn how it operates. The officer described the unit’s work as prevention through visible presence, response when incidents occur and aftercare for people affected.

Minister of Justice Nathalie Tackling has said the Sint Maarten pilot would assist visitors and residents, while allowing KPSM officers to focus on serious crime.

Roseburg said tourist police officers would be present in areas including Philipsburg, Simpson Bay and Maho, where residents and tourism workers live and work. She said she recorded her conversation with the Curaçao officer, which was held in English and Papiamentu, and is sharing it on her social media pages.
