UPM candidate Dave Levenstone has asked Saba’s Island Council to seek a January gathering for retired civil servants.

Dave Levenstone, a candidate for the United People Movement in Saba’s March 2027 Island Council election, has called on the Island Council to present a motion during Budget Week for a special New Year’s gathering for retired civil servants.

Levenstone said in a Facebook post that the motion should direct the Executive Council to organise the gathering in January. He said motions were on the following week’s agenda and urged one or more council members to bring forward the proposal.

Levenstone said the event would recognise people who served as civil servants for 25, 30 or more than 40 years. He estimated that about 100 retired civil servants are still alive and said some receive pensions that do not meet their needs after working for modest salaries.

He compared the proposal with year-end recognition for active civil servants, which he said includes a US$100 voucher and dinner parties. Levenstone said the motion could be advanced across party lines and offered assistance.
