Bridge Builders plans to hold its annual Meatless Day Walkathon on Saturday 7 November, starting at 6am AST from Belair Community Centre. The group said proceeds from the US$10 event will support Animal Defenders and its work caring for stray and abandoned animals.

Registration opens at 5:45am, according to Bridge Builders. The walk is due to begin and end at Belair Community Centre, following a route along Link 1, Walter Plantz, the Boardwalk, Emmaplein, Pondfill, Prins Bernard Bridge and Bush Road.

Bridge Builders said faster walkers are expected to finish in about an hour, while others may take up to an hour and a half. Runners are expected to complete the route in about 30 to 45 minutes, and the event is expected to end by 7:30am.

The walkathon is being held ahead of Meatless Day on 25 November. Bridge Builders is also encouraging residents to avoid eating meat that day.
