Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (VSA) Claret Connor visited St. Maarten Medical Center on Saturday 31 October during its Women’s Health Day initiative, the Government of Sint Maarten said. According to the government, SMMC organised the event with the Elektralyets Foundation and Positive Foundation, offering free breast screenings and other health screenings.

The government said SMMC departments displayed their services and shared healthcare and wellness information with visitors. Members of Connor’s Cabinet also took part in the breast cancer screening initiative, according to the government.

Connor met medical and support staff and women attending the screenings, the government said. He encouraged women to speak with healthcare providers about appropriate screenings, know their personal risk factors and seek medical advice before they notice a problem. The Ministry of VSA also encouraged residents to schedule regular check-ups and follow recommended screening guidelines.
