The Government of St. Eustatius has begun transferring Golden Rock homes to residents under a housing initiative approved in 2015. The government said one resident became a homeowner on Friday 2 October, and three others signed deeds of transfer before a notary on Friday 9 October.

According to the government, Island Council unanimously approved the sale of 25 homes on 27 February 2025 through Island Council Decision 002/2025. Each property was individually appraised, and revenue from the sales is to be reinvested in social-housing renovations.

Acting Island Governor Sharon Hassell signed the deeds for the government. Island Commissioner Reuben Merkman, who is responsible for housing, attended the signings.

The government said the initiative was first endorsed by Island Council in 2015. A cooperation agreement involving the Government of Statia, the Statia Housing Foundation and the Dutch Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning was signed in June 2022, and the sales process formally began in January 2026.

The government said further deed signings were scheduled for the week after 9 October.
