The Division of Public Education and the Sint Maarten National Commission for UNESCO concluded a literacy and numeracy training programme for public-school kindergarten teachers on Wednesday 30 September, according to the two bodies. The sessions ran from Wednesday 20 May to September at the University of St. Martin.

The programme was for Cycle 1, Groups 1 and 2 teachers and focused on teaching reading, writing and mathematics. The Division of Public Education and the commission said participants received teaching materials and developed curriculum materials during the training.

A follow-up meeting with the Head of the Division of Public Education and school managers is planned to share the materials developed by participants, according to the two bodies. Marva Sam-Arrindell and Juliana Hodge-Shipley were the trainers. Miranda Morris-Carty coordinated the initiative for the Division of Public Education Schools, while Claudia Connor submitted the project during her tenure at the division.

Marcellia Henry, Secretary-General of the Sint Maarten National Commission for UNESCO, said UNESCO funded the initiative.
