Justice Minister Nathalie Tackling said on Wednesday 7 October that the first phase of the Under the Hood project at Point Blanche Prison and Miss Lalie Centre had been completed and a second phase was under way.

According to Tackling, inmates worked as resident volunteers with international volunteers over the past two months on literacy, creative and personal-development activities. The work included inmate newsletters, a book club, a satellite library created with the St. Maarten Library, and photography and creative arts activities.

Tackling said the programmes were intended to support responsibility, confidence and skills for rehabilitation and reintegration. She said updates on new projects in the second phase would follow.
