The National Hurricane Center reported a surface trough of low pressure along Mexico’s coast in the southwestern Gulf of America. It included the system in its Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook issued on Monday 5 October, covering the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of America.

The centre said environmental conditions were expected to be only marginally conducive to development. It said gradual development was possible, and a tropical depression could form by the second half of the week of 5 October. The system would initially drift eastward before turning northward, according to the centre.
